吃一堑，长一智 - chī yī qiàn，zhǎng yī zhì
Experience is the mother of wisdom.
堑：壕沟，比喻困难、挫折。受一次挫折，增长一分见识。

激浊扬清 - jī zhuó yáng qīng
激：冲去；浊：脏水；清：清水。指荡去浊水，涌起清流。比喻清除坏的，发扬好的。有抑恶扬善的意思。
To drain away the mud and bring in fresh water; to drive out evil and usher in good; to eliminate vice and exalt virtue; to rid of the evil and hail the virtuous.
