Daily Recap

Retrieved my ICBC account password today. I had failed to remember my account passwords several times in the past, mainly due to my mind was entirely monopolized by my lover. (kidding) Those six-digit have always been on the brink of a lost in my fragile head, but fortunately I had found a surefooted way today to deal with them for the rest of my life! Sorry numbers, I beat you!

Reviewed 赵本山's trilogy. (卖拐, 卖车 and 功夫) and almost died of laughing. Credits to Zoe's recommendation and Mr. Zhao's masterworks!

Decided to quit Kaixin001.com cold turkey. The site is not that addictive, huh?

Decided to keep blogging instead of going to micro-blogging wholeheartedly.

Learned a new word - inter alia - among other things; as in "the committee recommended, inter alia, that he should be promoted first."

Started to poke my nose into comScore's User Demographic Reporting technique, but was interrupted later by new tasks, which is described below.

Two new tasks are under way, namely, WAP C2C platform and WAP social utility site. Gotta dig into them and work out two pieces of report by Thur.

Decided to set aside some time to plough through FAQ of Facebook and Twitter, in efforts to better understand these two popular social sites.

Walked through some Chinese micro-blogging sites, including 饭否, 嘀咕, 叽歪 to keep myself up-to-the-minute.

Found two very good sites, Hellotxt and Ping.fm, to synchronize a bundle of SNS sites at one click. And also stumbled upon a very cool article on the topic of social network synchornization.

Happened to find a new Gmail feature, providing info about recent and concurrent activities on your mail account. You can access to this feature by looking at the bottom of your Gmail inbox where it is said Last account activity.

Daily Recap

Learned a new English vocabulary - balky - difficult to operate or start; as in "the link is balky."

Also learned a new Chinese idiom from daily Twitter reading, 狗尾续貂.

Spent a night with my best friend. We had a heartfelt discussion and later I discovered that my best friends was currently earning 200 yuan every month from playing MMOG. Sadly. not even enough to pay electricity bill. Once a very promising kid, now a parasite living off his parents. Zoe declared that computer game was something that pushed people to perdition. I agreed that computer game was nothing but digital marijuana to a vulnerable mind.

Zoe is offically on Twitter and Kaixin001. She inputted her third entry today on Twitter, while at the same time declared on Kaixin001 that she was about to join the micro-blogging camp.

Developed a strong hatred for China Telecom's very sluggish customer services. Waiting in line for 2+ hours but still got nothing in the end. Damn it!

GWF a Thing of Past

Thanks to the innovative Google, who initiated mail publishing function long before, GWF is no longer a fearsome monster. The invisible wall has been utterly broken. ( Do I need to set up a monument for this? XD ) We should, I really mean this, celebrate for this breakthrough as people who has been longing for freedom of speech can finally have a place to utter.

Thank you Google! You helped!

My First Post Via Gmail

This is a post published via Gmail to see if the mail publishing function works well. The GFW would soon be turned into a paper tiger if this post could crawl its way to my blog.

Let's witness how we pierced through the annoying GWF to publish a marvelous post!

Facebook Blocked in Iran

You will take some solace after reading this. Google blog is being blocked in China while Facebook is suffering the same in Iran. Well, blocking seems to be the most efficient way to address problems in the minds of several governments.

Who's the next one on the blocking list?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Wolverine has been one of the movies that I really want to watch this year, simply because I'm a big X-Men fan!

Forget the bad reviews, in this movie you want to see cool actions, cool use of superpowers and great fights decked with special effects. This movie has it all. No Academy awards. No amazing plot. But enough to keep it very watchable. This is a solid action film, for the funs of X-men.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

It's written.

The cinematography is decent and the story concept involving the game show is one of the best, but the movie is sorta overrated. It is not quite as "excellent" as critics and movie-goers have been raving about. (Is this an implication that real excellent moves are all gone?) The main plot is a well-made flashback of childhood friendship developing into love and the lovers are being separated time and again by villains. You can call this plot decent, but not excellent in my standard.

Maybe, an Oscar was written for Slumdog Millionaire.

GFW is Still in Effect

It turned out that this was not an ephemeral blocking; it was well-planned by Chinese government and would last much longer. The only way to lift the banning, my 2 cents, would be to get some sophisticated Google diplomats to talk straight to Beijing to have the unjust restriction unplugged. I don't want to see the Great Wall collapse, but I do hope the digital Great Firewall cave in, ASAP.

KTV Party

Today we held a celebration party for the successful launch of our products. The party was hilarious. We started by playing liar's dice, but some wine guys thought the game was not exciting enough as too many people were involved (10+), so they quickened the pace by introducing another game called 007, which was entirely a game for punishment (if you failed the game you gotta drink up a cup of wine). I quit the game halfway with no other choices, as I had unfortunately been put out by mother nature from the clan of wine guy. (my last sentence is too abstract to be understood? You got the point! I created this abstraction by intention to confuse your understading. Why? bcuz I'm drunk now!)

Picture of The Day

This defensive mode is rare in basketball match but was apparently working well in today's NBA play-off between Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets, as the later was beaten by a hair's breadth.

I'm Kobe Bryant! Don't shoot (shit) at my home!

十大奇冤(2008)

十大奇冤 is an elegant combination of detective plots and funny dialogues. This TV series excelled in many ways. The detective plot involved were engaging; the characters were well-designed and the dialogues were laughable. Conforming to truth, I had literaly no memory about when was my last time spending significant time in front of an idiot box. But 十大奇冤 reversed everything. I kept fixating on the TV set when the episodes aired and really enjoyed the time with my family. Overall, it is a series worth its weight in time.

GWF is Beaten!

So what? GWF? You go hit the dirt! Now I can post freely without any trouble! Never underestimate the wisdom of those longed for freedom of speech!

Thanks to Hotspot Shield, I'm here to announce my blog has formally been revived! Cheers!

One Last Post to End a Holiday

Yup, weekend is gone. My wish is the innocent Blogger would soon recover from its imposed sick and inject a vaccine to disGWF forever. Better save a dose for her sister Youtube, who has been suffering the same unfairly inflicted illness since time out of mind.

House Hunting Game

House hunting game went on without too much gain, though with sufferable pain. We surfed literally everywhere for our dream house but was struck every time by either agents or houses.

However, obstacles had very little effect on our determination to start a family. I always believe the wisdom "after suffering comes happiness," and our happiness is, for sure, just a few steps away.

Google Blog Blocked

Poor me! Blogger is being blocked by GWF (Great Fire Wall) and now I have to write my blog with the help of a sluggish proxy.

This is a real damper to my blog writing hobby as I have hundreds of things to blog on a monthly basis.

I want to jot down on my blog my job, my every day with Zoe as well as unusual stuff thrown in from every direction of my life.

Please lift the barrier. I plead.

Wisdom from Zoe

Dennis 17:01:53
天啊,你好邪恶!

佐伊 17:02:09
我邪恶故我在~~

Zoe instantly reminded me of an old idiom "He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon."

Chen Sex Scandal Techie Gets 8 Months in Jail

The techie finally got caught and was sentenced to eight and a half months in jail. Who's the biggest victim in this game? In fact, both Chen and the techie are innocent, but the biggest sorry was that they are living in a digital age, where sharing has been made unthinkably easy by advanced technology and internet.

Sorry, both! Now the "Sex Scandal Door" can be closed, and hope you two would be forgiven someday, as time flies by.

What's The BRT You See Everywhere?

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a broad term given to a variety of transportation systems that, through improvements to infrastructure, vehicles and scheduling, attempt to use buses to provide a service that is of a higher quality than an ordinary bus line. Each BRT system uses different improvements, although many improvements are shared by many BRT systems. The goal of such systems is to at least approach the service quality of rail transit while still enjoying the cost savings of bus transit. The expression "BRT" is mainly used in North America; elsewhere, one may speak of Quality Bus or simply bus service while raising the quality.

Err... We are catching the trends of North America.

My Cup Runneth Over

"My Cup Runneth Over" is a quote from the King James Version of the Bible (Psalms 23:5) and means "I have more than enough for my needs" though interpretations and usage may vary. Notably, it can be employed sarcastically to indicate that someone, e.g. one's host, is being less than generous.

Let's see some examples:

This week, I finished paying off my mortgage, my arthritis improved, and my first grandchild was born. My cup runneth over.

Janet was speechless with happiness when she saw how many of her friends and relatives had joined together to give her a surprise party. "My cup runneth over." she finally said.

Struggling to Meet Deadline

The deadline is coming around the corner. Again, I'm in a situation where I have to stretch myself for an upcoming deadline.

Tired of seeing the line of dead, I figure I'd better find some ways to eliminate it, once and for all.

The principle of meeting deadline every time, according to some project experts, is by breaking down large projects into bite-size chunks, and break the circle! Sounds easy! Soon I will be making deadlines, with time to spare. XD

But, my 2-cent advice to you is that - never overcommit, neither to your boss, nor your lover.

Restless Life

I bumped my head into project after project, day after day. Is this what they call with great power comes great responsibilities?

If I would only take a moment to stop and think of alternative ways to proceed, I’m sure I could find better ways to do my work, and live.

Restless life is not a Chinese dream. Or, sadly, restless life is a foundation of Chinese dream?

Food for thought.

We Had a Wonderful Night

Last night was fantastic! My darling was so sweet! I couldn't really tell the feeling, though I was like in heaven. I will never forget last night, and that personal touch on my body, as wel as, my soul.

Packed Schedule

Finally my PC is up and running after hours of configuring and fine-tuning. Without doubt, PC is your best and most trustworthy friend while you are at work, so you really should spend some time to comb it like you do to your first love, fondly and patiently.

Oh... this piece kinda went amiss and didn't quite fit its title, as it announced something like "packed schedule" above, and it should have been a piece complaining about a damn packed schedule, in a logical way... But wait! Who on earth set the law that says an article must fit its title? No one. So why I have to write something that fits its title? Generally speaking, for consistency. Then why I want to care about that abstract consistency in the first place? For the comfort of readers. So here comes the last question - are you really uncomfortable when reading an astray piece like this?

Please remind me of what I should otherwise have forgotten.

Holiday is Gone

Cheers! The three-day holiday has officially ended. Actually I hadn't got much rest during the holiday since most of the times I was busy with my stuff, but still pleased as Punch now thanks to a successful foray into the project.

Have a good night, and brace for months of tough job ahead!

Three of a Kind (2004)

This movie is an example of 1+1+1 is not equal to 3. Director Mr.Who somehow assembled an impressive cast for his comedy Three of a Kind. But the triumvirate printed in the poster below had largely failed to produce giggles among audience. At one point I thought the movie kinda reminded me of the My Sassy Girl, but that feeling quickly dispersed as the trio presented nothing but some for-the-birds humors over the course of the movie time. After all, I'm very picky in terms of comedy.

Words and Expressions

On the news:
The soap-opera enthralled the country, with Italians sounding off on whether they agreed with Veronica -- and whether they thought Berlusconi, 70, would submit to his wife, 20 years his junior.

Well, instead of saying "He is three years younger than me." now you should say "My brother is my junior by three years. / My brother is three years my junior." to liven your writing.

"Here I am, saying I'm sorry. I was recalcitrant in private, because I am playful but proud too. Challenged in public, the temptation to give in to you is strong. I can't resist," said Berlusconi.

recalcitrant
adjective FORMAL
(of a person) unwilling to obey orders or to do what should be done, or (of an animal) refusing to be controlled.

This word is originated from Late Latin, and would be very cool to insert it into your future piece. But remember, don't induge in "big words" as simpe words really have the job done most of the times...even better than the biggies.

Soul-cleansing Piano Tones

Piano tones that cleanse my soul.

Ballade Pour Adeline - Richard Clayderman

Canon - Pachelbel

Variations on the Canon - George Winston

Mona Lisa by Chalks

Though street artist is common in western countries, it's really rare to see this kind of thing in China, as the Chinese government has long been taken a strong dislike for ground doodling. (well, street artist poses a tough job for city cleaner and makes the street a complete mess, our top-dog denounces) They are a very cood bunch in fact. We should respect this kind of art and set up a place freely available to them. China's Got Talent!

Mona Lisa drawn on ground by colorful chalks. Click here to see the stunt. (Summary of the video: a Chinese street artist is showing off his drawing skills by chalking Mona Lisa on the ground.)

Yao's First NBA Playoff Experience

Yao has finally ended his twelve years of playoff frustration, after dispatching Portland Blazers in Game 6. It's worth a piece of blog entry! How sweet it is! Our next target is to beat L.A., in a dream. :)

Ron Artest: Hey buddy, you got me wrong... I'm not Yao!
Dennis: Sorry............................... for the blunder.

Knowledge Points About WHO

WHO is a frequent word in recent news item, which stands for World Health Organization. But you know how it pronounce? (sounds like a pretty stupid question, huh?) Pronouncing WHO as W-H-O is definitely correct, but I got another pronunciation when I listened to CNN boardcast today.

It is pronounced [hu:], the same way you pronounce the word "who".

But wait... why the emblem of WHO looks like this? A poisonous snake intertwisting a staff? What the heck is that?

Relax, let's do some reading...
WHO's emblem was chosen by the first World Health Assembly in 1948. The emblem consists of the United Nations symbol surmounted by a staff with a snake coiling round it. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. It originates from the story of Aesculapius who was revered by the ancient Greeks as a god of healing and whose cult involved the use of snakes. (Aesculapius, incidentally, was so successful at saving lives that, the legend goes, Hades the god of the underworld complained about him to the supreme god Zeus who, fearing that the healer might make humans immortal, killed Aesculapius with a thunderbolt.)
Ha... the myth part in brackets is really intriguing. Hope theses little tips help. =)

International Workers' Day

It's May Day today, but for those who don't know, May Day is NOT a national holiday in United States.

Here is an excerpt from Wiki, better read it through to get a better understand of Labor Day in US.

The United States has its own Labor Day holiday, celebrated on the first Monday in September instead of on May Day. The U.S. version of Labor Day was a creation of the Knights of Labor, and was adopted officially in 1887 in an effort to disassociate labor activism from the radical left. Subsequent efforts to officially switch Labor Day to the international date of May 1 have failed. In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 both as Loyalty Day and as Law Day.

Baidu's May Day logo
Google has no specially-designed logo dedicated to May 1.

白皮肤 短睫毛 是你最美的记号,

你要知道 你对我多么重要,

Serious Nasal Congestion

Very serious nasal congestion invaded. I feel like all my appetite has been stripped off, in a way. A good rest last night had failed to contain the virus and obviously I need another day of rest.
