Old Word, New Meaning

The goal is not to bait the other side or engage in purely political point-scoring. It is more important to engage with the electorate watching at home.

Ok, audience, can you tell me what the bait means in the sentence above?

Generally in your minds, including yours truly, bait means "to entice, especially by trickery or strategy." However, it is not the case here. Here bait takes on a new meaning "to attack or torment, especially with persistent insults, criticism, or ridicule."

Remember, even "old words" can spark a new knowledge. Pay close attention to what you read everyday and find hidden knowledge along the way. =)
