English Lesson from Dennis (3)

1.
a red herring - something that takes people's attention away from the main subject being talked or written about;

Example: About halfway through the book it looked as though the butler was the murderer, but that turned out to be a red herring.

2.
elbow grease - hard work, especially when you are cleaning something;

Example: With determination and elbow grease we soon transformed the filthy kitchen.

Now it's your show time Zoe!

  1. 1. A red herring is always welcome in a boring dating.

    2. Since I had moved here, my sheets never got washed, so I decide to give an eelbow grease for cleaning them all this weekend.
